7 Disney World Secrets You Didn’t Know
One of the things we love the most about Disney is all the fun Disney World secrets you’ll find in the park. Here are 7 Disney World Secrets you might not know.
1. Expedition Everest is Actually a Hidden Mickey
It’s common knowledge that there are Hidden Mickeys scattered all throughout Disney Parks. But… you probably have never spotted a giant Hidden Mickey in Expedition Everest in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The reason is that it’s the entire ride. Imagineers really outdid themselves this time. Making an entire ride a Hidden Mickey an entire ride is purely Disney and we love it.
2. Main Street Has Different Color Pavement For a Reason
Next time you walk down Main Street, U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom, look down and you will notice that multi-colored pavement. The reason for this is to guide guests and help differentiate the change in elevation or to alert steps. Next time you’re in Magic Kingdom, keep your eye out and try not to trip on the sidewalks.
But those trolley tracks. Well, we can’t help you not trip on those. Walk at your own risk.
3. EPCOT Also Has its Own Utilodor
Magic Kingdom’s Utilodors are pretty well-known, but they’re not the only park that has infamous secret tunnels.
EPCOT has its own underground tunnel! These are quite a bit smaller at about 700 feet long, and are located partially under Spaceship Earth. They are used to make deliveries to different shops and help move construction equipment as needed.
4. There’s Something a Bit off About the American Flags
Main Street U.S.A. Is the epitome of small-town America. But almost all of the flags on display aren’t authentic or “real” American Flags. According to Flag Code, it is not acceptable to keep a flag out at night without a light on it or in the rain. To keep in regulation, Disney has flags missing stars or stripes to keep in compliance. Pretty sneaky, Disney.
The only real American Flag in Magic Kingdom’s Main Street U.S.A. is the flag right in the entrance, which is taken down ceremoniously at dusk daily.
5. Wait Times are Usually Over Inflated
This is essentially a customer-satisfaction ploy, but it works. Disney will typically over estimate wait times to make it seem like guests are getting a better deal when they get to their desired attraction. Who doesn’t want to see 90 minutes on the Disney App for Space Mountain when, in reality, it’s 60 minutes.
You will find similar tactics with retail products priced $19.99 vs $20.00. It’s all about tricking guest perception. Think of it like a mental forced perspective.
6. You Can Mail a Coconut… Wait, What?
This is not a joke. One of the special things you can do at Disney World is quite the secret if you’ve never heard of it.
Send someone Caribbean vibes with one of the coolest things you can do in Disney World. You can get these coconuts in Magic Kingdom’s Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar, Boutiki at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and Calypso Trading Post at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.
7. Magically Themed Bar Crawls
If you’re over 21, you will love this Disney secret. Walt Disney World is home to some of the most magically themed bars. Guests of WDW Resort have the opportunity to enjoy a different kind of bar crawl that not too many people know about.
Popular among locals especially is the Disney World Monorail bar crawl, which includes stops at the Disney Grand Floridian Resort, Polynesian Resort and Contemporary Resort. The Boardwalk crawl is another very popular experience with stops at the Disney Boardwalk, Disney Yacht Club and the Swan Resort.
