The famous and beloved Kona Cafe in Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is temporarily closing in the summer for a refurbishment. According to Walt Disney World, Kona Cafe is closed starting August 15, 2022. The closure is likely to last only until September, but we do not ave any hard and fast details yet.
For those of you who are Kona Cafe faithfuls, you might be sweating bullets right now in worry that Tonga Toast will be unavailable. Well, at this time Kona Island Coffee & Sushi Bar is staying open all day. Disney informed us that guests will utilize Mobile Order through the My Disney Experience App to order select items from Kona Cafe. While we don’t know the extent of this menu, we seriously hope Tonga Toast will still be available. Otherwise, Disney is going to have some unhappy customers.
Kona Cafe Refurb Details
At this point in time, we do not have any major details on what the major changes will be in the Polynesian’s breakfast gem, but we can expect some basic sprucing up.
If you are still visiting the most Magical Place on Earth this summer, be sure to make reservations all the way up to August 14, 2022. After that, you’re pretty much out of luck.
When we find out the reopening date, you’ll be the first to know. However, we are glad to know you can still purchase some Kona Cafe favorites at Kona Island. Let’s just hope that Tonga Toast is one of those options.
Of course, if you’re looking to still eat at the Polynesian while on your Walt Disney World vacation, you can enjoy ‘Ohana and Capt. Cook’s. Or if you’re looking for other offerings nearby, don’t forget to take the monorail over to Disney’s Grand Floridian or Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
